What is your phone number and address?

URR is an all-volunteer organization. There are many working together to rescue, vet, transport, care for, and place URR pups. There is no central office, kennel location, or designated phone number. Please email us or send us a private message on our Facebook page with your questions.

How do I arrange to meet one of your adoptable pets?

Because there is no central URR office or facility, all pups live with loving Foster Families spread throughout the Portland Metro area. Because of this, an application to adopt must first be submitted and identified as a possible match for a dog before a meet can be set-up.

HOWEVER… URR does hold monthly Meet & Sniff adoption events. These events are a great way to meet some of the URR pups up for adoption and to learn more about URR in general. You can find a listing of upcoming URR events here and by watching our Facebook page.

What is the adoption process and how do I get started?

The adoption process starts by filling out a URR application located on our website here.

If your application is identified as a good match for a pup, you will be contacted by an URR representative (usually a Foster) to see if a meet should be set-up. If a meet goes well, then a home safety check is scheduled. This home check is the last step before an adoption takes place.

I submitted an adoption application. When will I hear back?

Please be patient. URR is an all-volunteer organization. Depending on volunteer schedules and the number of applications received for a pup, it can take one to several days before a potential applicant is contacted.

I would make a great furever home. How come I didn’t get the dog I wanted?

URR makes every effort to pair pups with the most compatible forever family. Once your application is approved, we will let you know via email if the a dog you are interested in has an observed behavior/temperament that may not fit well with what you indicated you were looking for. Or, multiple applications came in for a pup and another applicant appeared to be a little better match for a given pup’s needs. We aren’t a first come first serve rescue but timing does play a part in our process. URR always has new pups arriving, so don’t despair. Keep watching for new arrivals until your right match is found.

I didn’t get the dog I originally applied for but see another I am interested in. What should I do?

Once you submit a URR application and it is approved, it will remain active for a 6 month period. Just contact URR by email or through Facebook and note that you already have an application on file and the pup you are interested in.

I have seen posting that says “Foster” or “Foster-to-Adopt” home needed. What is that all about?

Rescued pups need to have a place to come to in Portland before being transported to Portland. URR has a limited number of Foster homes. If a pup is rescued before space with a URR Foster is available, the pup has to wait for a spot to open up or for someone to offer a Foster to Adopt home

What is the “Foster-to-Adopt” all about?

This option allows you to bring a rescued pup directly from arrival in Portland into your home. This gives you the opportunity to get to know a pup, so you can decide whether or not there is a good match. If there is a match, you proceed with an adoption. URR will even take care of all the pups needs while you foster. If you find the pup is not a good match, you continue to foster until its’ right forever home can be found.

If this option appeals to you keep an eye on URR’s Facebook page for dogs in need of Foster or Foster-to-Adopt homes and complete an adoption application when you see a pup you are willing to bring directly into your home. Remember, you can check our Facebook photo album called Fosters Needed for dogs waiting for Foster homes.

PLEASE NOTE: Pups rescued from CA are vetted first in CA. They must be well enough to receive a health certificate before transport to Portland. This means that at times situations outside of URR’s control can result in a delay in a pups transport. Should a delay occur, once again your patience is asked for. It is only done out of the best interest of the pup and the home it will be going to.
